ya patchmaster is great. i have 2 lab mixes (brothers) and do some damage through out the year… i have compared patchmaster to regular seeding an the patch master produced and thrived about 50% better i would say- im guessing because of the built in fertilizer.
i have to reseed every year to make it decent looking, we noticed our dogs were urinating on things that stuck out like new plants, new gardens and the last snow piles or leaf piles- so we put a few large(6") poles with mulch around them- to attract them there to urinate –
so far (a few months) its working good. they get to fight over who gets to pee on the log first! and keeps them off the lawn and new platings.
lol
Really anything that breaks down fast. banana peels, apple cores. basically a lot of fruits and vegetables.

There are a number of ways. Firstly there are first hand accounts, record of plant species shipped in and descriptions of existing native plants. Then you can look at the plants morphology, most exotics brought into Australia are not adapted to our climate. Then you can look at the plants adaptations, eg an Australian acacia species is different to one found in Africa, many Australian species have evolved in isolation and are endemic to the country. Lastly native species have a niche, they don't grow out of control or need special attention or artificial conditions to thrive.
It's a good question though. There are species that no one is sure about and some which become naturalised in an area to the point that they effectively become a native.
I'm sorry I can't remember the example I was thinking of. There is a species of Hibiscus in Australia which may or may not have been introduced.
I am not in to hydroponics but you might want to look at this site " squarefootgardening.com". If you are looking for a way to grow things cheaper and easy, low tech, less space, less water, least amount of labor,no heavy equipment, all you need is a $1.00 trowel, etc.
As fall approaches, you don't want your plants to put on a bunch of tender new growth that will be vulnerable to the cold, but you do want to keep feeding, so avoid high nitrogen content. I prefer to use natural products in the garden, and there are some good organic multipurpose fertilizers available commercially. The dry organic fertilizers are naturally slow release, as the nutrients become gradually available to the roots of the plants as they slowly get watered down into the soil. Covering the fertilizer with an inch or 2 of good compost will also be helpful. The compost not only has some nutrient value of its own, but it also helps conserve water and keep the root zone a more constant temperature by slowing evaporation.

This is something I have been wondering too! I am new to growing indoor house plants. I was reading about the pothos plant and how it is a great beginner plant. Something that a lot of articles had in common was that they all said not to over water because it does not like wet feet. But in the same articles they said that many people keep their pothos plants in water and they do fine. I have also seen many people keep their plants in water long term.
I'm sorry that this didn't answer your question, but in my opinion it's not a dumb question because I was thinking the same thing

you shouldn't fertilize it till it's at least 6 to 8 weeks after you seeded it. just go and get a bag of compost and top dress the area…spread about 1/2" of compost over the area…you'll probably get good results in those areas …you'll have to over seed and top dress the whole lawn next year!

Humates, which include fulvic acid and humic acid, should really be an important part of every hydroponics gardener’s nutrient solution. This is because these substances are some of the most vital parts of fertile soil that gives exceptional results to traditionally grown plants.
